BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

More than 14,000 visitors are expected in Baton Rouge over the next week-and-a-half for the 2014 Youth Soccer Region 3 Championships.

Many of the 208 teams and their families are already in town getting a feel for the area.

Opening ceremonies will be held Thursday, with matches starting Friday and going through next week at BREC's Burbank Road Soccer Complex. The first event, though, starts Wednesday night.

"We're working to bring in some alligators and some music, what have you," said Paul Arrigo, president and CEO of Visit Baton Rouge "That'd be at the River Center for the players and their families and their friends, so we're looking at a big crowd downtown."

City leaders expect the tournament to have a $15 million economic impact on the city.
