Campaign encourages residents to call EMS for emergencies, don't drive

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Don't drive-stay alive. That's the message behind a new campaign EMS leaders rolled out Tuesday.

EMS officials wanted to remind people to call an ambulance instead of driving themselves to the hospital—especially in the case of someone having a heart attack or stroke.

Officials say paramedics are able to do EKGs in the field that allow them time to diagnose a heart attack by radio and have the hospital room ready by the time you arrive.
