ANGOLA, LA (WAFB) - A former State Correctional official has been charged with civil rights violations related to the beating of an inmate at Angola.
Mark Sharp, 33 of Amite, has been charged with deprivation of rights under color of law and making false statements. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison and up to a $100,000 fine.
Officials say Sharp struck an inmate with a baton while the inmate was handcuffed resulting in bodily injury. Sharp then lied to the FBI during the investigation.
Two other former state correction officials have been charged and convicted in connection with the inmate's beating.
