Coroner says victim found in van was stabbed to death

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An autopsy has determined a man found dead inside a vehicle was stabbed, and not shot, as was originally believed.

The East Baton Rouge Parish coroner said Friday that Earl Wade, 51, of Baton Rouge, was stabbed and bled to death. The Baton Rouge Police Department said Wade's body was discovered in the driver's seat of a van on Greenwell Springs near Monterrey Drive on Wednesday around 2:45 a.m.

Investigators have not released any information about a suspect or motive. The investigation into Wade's murder is ongoing.

Police initially reported they were called to the scene to investigate a shooting. They added that Wade had been shot.

The van was located in the grass near the KFC on Greenwell Springs Road. Investigators blocked off the area for several hours while they collected evidence. Greenwell Springs Road was completely reopened just before 6:30 a.m.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation. District Attorney Hillar Moore was also on the scene.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
