BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Fire investigators said they have not yet figured out what caused a fire at a vacant home early Friday morning.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported it happened on Bawell Street around 4:25 a.m. Bawell is located between South Acadian Thruway and College Drive, just north of I-10.

Mark Miles with BRFD said firefighters arrived on the scene to find flames shooting out the back of the house. He added the kitchen area burned and the flames reached the attic above it.

Officials said the rest of the house had water and heavy smoke damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
