WASHINGTON, DC (WAFB) - Louisiana leaders are in Washington, DC fighting for more resources to restore the Mississippi River and Louisiana's coastline.
"We know what the problems are," said Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne. "We just now have to figure out what the solutions are and how we can get everybody together and collaborate on how to fix this."
The "Big River Works" study will bring elected officials and environmental groups together to discuss long-term plans.
US Sen. Mary Landrieu said the budget for the US Army Corps of Engineers is at an all-time low.
She added more funding is vital to protect coastal Louisiana from storms and to keep commerce flowing along the Mississippi River.
