BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Firefighters were called out to a fire that destroyed a vacant house early Wednesday morning.
Investigators with the Baton Rouge Fire Department reported they have determined it was caused by arson.
Officials said it happened on Nebraska Street, which is just off Highland Road, around 2:30 a.m.
Curt Monte with BRFD said firemen arrived on the scene to find the house engulfed in flames. He added it took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
According to Monte, the heat from the fire was so intense that the siding on the home next door melted. He said one person lived next door, but was not injured.
Investigators said they do not believe the recent rash of arsons are connected.
"Arson has been determined on those fires in the last week or so," Monte said. "At this point in the investigation, there has been no connection made, but investigators have not ruled that out."
No injuries were reported.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
