Police find man dead in driver's seat of van

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities said the cause of death has not been determined for a man found shot inside a vehicle early Wednesday morning.

The victim was identified as Earl Wade, 51, of Baton Rouge.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said it happened on Greenwell Springs Road near Monterrey Drive around 2:45 a.m.

Capt. Ronald Norman with BRPD reported officers arrived on the scene to find the victim in the driver's seat of a van. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. The van was located in the grass near the KFC on Greenwell Springs Road.

Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. with BRPD said the details surrounding the investigation, including the cause of death, remain unclear. He added an autopsy is scheduled to determine what killed Wade.

Investigators blocked off the area for several hours while they collected evidence. Greenwell Springs Road was completely reopened just before 6:30 a.m.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation. District Attorney Hillar Moore was also on the scene.

Police have not released any information on a suspect or motive.

The investigation is ongoing.
