LA Wildlife and Fisheries passes new class of cadets

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

It has been 3 years since the Wildlife and Fisheries put out a new class, but the drought ended today. Thirteen new cadets graduated from the Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division Academy. Travis Bartlett spent some time in the Marine Corp, prior to joining the academy. He says this was a great opportunity to serve in another way.

"It's a very small, elite, and nice tight knit family. It's something that I wanted to be a part of," said Bartlett.

Major Spencer Cole said the cadets went through basic training, ranging from 21-26 weeks. He added this is a really big boost for Louisiana's law enforcement.

"We provide most of the major time support that our partners federal, state, and local, need in an emergency situation; natural or manmade, "said Cole. " We are consistently growing adapting to the changing mission that continues to expand."

The cadets will have to complete at Field Training Officer program before being considered as an agent.
