US marshals arrest suspect in shooting that left man dead in his own doorway

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Police said a suspect has been arrested in a shooting that left a man dead in the doorway of his home.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Christopher Jackson, 22, is accused of killing Travis Mitchell, 25. Authorities said he was taken into custody Thursday morning by the US Marshal's Fugitive Task Force.

Investigators said Mitchell was shot to death at his home on North 35th Street on April 2, 2014. They added his body was found in the front door of the home.

According to detectives, Mitchell was shot in the face and arm pit area. They are still unclear about the motive for the shooting.

Jackson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of first-degree murder.

The investigation into the deadly shooting is ongoing.
