Vandalism and crime taking over central Toledo neighborhood

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

People who live near Coventry and Avondale say vandalism and crime are taking over their central Toledo neighborhood and they want to see a change.

"Something has to be done. We have to bring our Coventry Street back," said resident Patricia Rose.

Rose calls Coventry home, but over the last few months, she says things haven't been the same.

"My garage was broken into and they kicked in the garage," she said.

First crime...now continuous vandalism.

"He's torn out my plants, and the fence," said Rose.

Rose wants to see change and is worried things will only get worse if no action is taken.

"I've haven't got hurt yet, but my gut tells me I will get hurt," said Rose.

Rose has filed police reports and is hoping crews step up patrols. She says one of her biggest obstacles now is getting neighbors involved.

"People in the neighborhood who own their houses are scared to speak up," she said.

But Rose isn't, and would like to have a block watch group in the area. She hopes the crime and vandalism stop so Coventry can feel like home again.
