The focus of the first day of organized team activities for the New Orleans Saints centered on the new center who's not really new at all.

The Saints welcomed center Jonathan Goodwin back to the organization. Goodwin played for the Saints for five years, starting three, including snapping the ball for quarterback Drew Brees when the Saints won the Super Bowl in 2009. After a stint with the San Francisco 49ers, Goodwin is now back in the "Big Easy."

"When you get to play with Drew Brees … he's a great quarterback, smart quarterback, one of the all-time greats," said Goodwin. "He was always good to me. It was great to see him, along with Coach Payton, Marques Colston and all the guys that I played with here before."

"There are some nuisances offensively that I'm sure will be different," said head coach Sean Payton. "But for the most part, the transition for a player like him will be mostly rapid."

"You lose Brian, you lose a friend, you want to a friend to come in," said tackle Zach Strief. "And on top of that, he's a good football player."

For veterans like Goodwin, OTAs are hardly a make-or-break situation. For players like rookie free agent Brandon Coleman, a wide receiver from Rutgers, the days are more important.

"The one good thing about them, no matter where you came in, they'll give you a fair shot," Coleman said.

The Saints will hold another mini-camp Tuesday through Thursday. It is open to the public.
