Deputies: Chase and crash leads to drug charges for the driver

BALDWIN, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a man faces drug charges after crashing while allegedly trying to flee sheriff's deputies.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office reported Jackie Roberson Jr., 31, of Baldwin, was arrested Monday night.

Deputies said detectives with the St. Mary Parish Narcotics Division were patrolling the Baldwin area when they reportedly spotted a truck being driven in the middle of the road.

Detectives said the driver sped off when they tried to pull him over. They added about two blocks later the driver lost control and crashed into a ditch.

Investigators said a passenger in the truck was taken to Iberia Medical Center for injuries suffered in the crash. They said he was treated and released.

Detectives reported seeing a pack of small baggies commonly used for drugs and several pieces of crack cocaine on the floor of the driver's side.

They added a Norco pill and small bag of marijuana were discovered in the center console. Detectives said they later learned Roberson has two previous marijuana convictions.

He was booked into the St. Mary Parish Detention Center on the following charges:

Possession of marijuana (3rd offense)

Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute

Possession of Norco

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Negligent injuring

Bond has not been set.
