BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Fire investigators said flames destroyed a vacant home in Baton Rouge on Monday night.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department said it happened on Woodbine Street, which is off Florida Boulevard.
Curt Monte, spokesman for BRFD, reported the first call was received right around 10:25 p.m. He added the first unit made it to the scene in about a minute and the fire was under control in less than 20 minutes.
However, the fire was able to cause extensive damage to the home. According to Monte, the carport was on fire when firefighters arrived on the scene.
He added the flames had already spread to the kitchen and attic above it before they could get it contained. The rest of the home had smoke and heat damage.
Monte said the house was furnished and had electricity but no one was living there.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is still being investigated.
