GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - State Police say a pedestrian in Ascension Parish was killed early Sunday after being hit by a car.
Troopers say 21-year-old Lawrence Rowell, of Gonzales, was walking in one of the lanes of Church Point Road just west of LA 431 at around 4 a.m. He was then hit by a Ford truck.
Investigators say the driver was unable to avoid hitting Rowell. They do not believe impairment was a factor, and
the driver was not issued a ticket.
The Louisiana State Police released the following statement:
Crashes involving pedestrians can often be avoided by following some basic safety guidelines. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and should always avoid walking on the roadway in dark areas. Pedestrians must also assume that approaching motorists cannot see them, especially at night. Crossing roadways only in well-lit, designated areas and always walking facing traffic will enhance the safety for pedestrians.
