LSU gets past Houston 5-1

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB/AP) - LSU beat Houston 5-1 in the winners' bracket of the Baton Rouge Regional at Alex Box Stadium on Saturday night.

Aaron Nola (11-1) got the win for LSU (46-14-1). He pitched 7 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and one run. He also had seven strikeouts in the game.

LSU had 12 hits in the game. Andrew Stevenson had three of those. Conner Hale had two hits and two RBI.

Tied at one in the third, Mark Laird led off with a walk for LSU. With one out, Jake Fraley singled and Laird scored on an RBI single by Sean McMullen. After stealing second, McMullen scored on Hale's RBI single to make it 3-1.

RBI singles by Laird and Alex Bregman in the seventh inning gave the Tigers a 5-1 advantage over the Cougars.

Houston (45-16) scored its only run of the game on an RBI single by Michael Pyeatt.

LSU extended the nation's longest winning streak to 10.

Houston will face Southeastern Louisiana (38-24) at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Lions got past Bryant (42-15) 2-1 in 10 innings in the early game on Saturday.

LSU will then play the winner of that game at 7 p.m.
