GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Despite a special meeting, the city of Gonzales remains without a budget.
Mayor Barney Arceneaux said he hopes things will move forward quickly now.
"I'd like to do it all next week and try to move forward as quickly as possible," said Arceneaux. "Not only for the raises, certainly that's important, but for everything else we've got, like the police units and the air packs for the firemen."
He added he plans to meet with all councilmen in the coming weeks, so that they can try to work out an agreement on a budget.
However, that will not happen in time for the June 1 deadline.
The mayor said the city will operate on 50 percent of last year's budget, which he explained will last about five months.
