High school track coach accused of intentionally exposing student to AIDS virus

TERREBONNE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A high school coach in Terrebonne Parish who was arrested Wednesday for allegedly having a "sexual encounter" with a student has now been charged with intentional exposure of the AIDS virus. 

According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, the investigation was launched on Friday, May 9 after a complaint was lodged against Derrick Nesby, 37. Investigators were told that Nesby had participated in an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old male student.

Nesby, who is a New Orleans native, was employed at H.L. Bourgeois High School as a track coach. Detectives questioned Nesby. He denied all the allegations.

Detectives recently secured an arrest warrant and Nesby was taken into custody at the school. He was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail for carnal knowledge of a juvenile  which is a felony. He is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Officials say Nesby's employment at the school was terminated prior to his arrest.
