NWS extends flash flood watch into Friday

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Much of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi remain under a flash flood watch and forecasters have now extended it for some areas.

The watch is now scheduled to remain in effect until 7 p.m. on Friday.

The following Louisiana parishes are included in the watch:

Ascension

Assumption

East Baton Rouge

East Feliciana

Iberville

Lafourche

Livingston

Pointe Coupee

St. Helena

St. James

St. John the Baptist

Tangipahoa

Terrebonne

West Baton Rouge

West Feliciana

 

The following Mississippi counties also fall within the zone:

Amite

Pike

Wilkinson

 

Meteorologists said heavy rainfall is expected in many areas through late Friday afternoon as bands of showers and thunderstorms continue to develop. Heavy rainfall amounts of two to four inches in a two to three hour period will be possible where repeat thunderstorms occur.

They added those repeat thunderstorms may result in localized flash flooding.
