Southeastern hopes to make run after earning spot in NCAA baseball tournament

HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - The Southeastern Lions won the Southland Conference Tournament championship to take its spot in the Baton Rouge regional of the NCAA baseball tournament.

The Lions will take on LSU in the first game of the regional. The Tigers beat them 7-3 in Hammond during the regular season, but not without some stellar defense.

Southeastern is another team that has gotten hot at just the right time to earn the opportunity of a lifetime.

"We're excited, especially to go into the Box," said sophomore catcher Jameson Fisher. "(It's) a big atmosphere, biggest stage in college baseball. It's going to be exciting. There's going to be a lot of people there. It's going to be crazy, but I think we're going to be ready for it. It's going to motivate us."

"Just to finally secure that spot in the tournament," added junior pitcher Andro Cutura. "Winning the championship was a great feeling and we're ready to make a run in this thing."

Southeastern faces LSU on Friday at 2 p.m.
