Group plants 10,000 flags to represent Louisiana military members killed in combat

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana planted 10,000 American flags across from the Louisiana State Capitol.

They represent the 10,000 Louisiana men and women killed in combat since the Revolutionary War. The group's president, Janet Broussard, said the flags will be on display until 6 p.m.

If you miss this display, Broussard added there will be another opportunity to honor the fallen and support those still fighting every day.

"Red, Rock and Blue allows us to do things like this and it also provides us money so we can send care packages to our troops and help our Gold Star families when they're in need and just anything else that we do," she said.

The Red, Rock and Blue charity event is put on by Jacques Doucet and is held at the end of June.

Broussard and the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana welcome volunteers to help them remove the flags.
