Driver dies after car ends up in bayou

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police reported a man died when the car he was driving went off I-10 and ended up in a bayou early Friday morning.

Tpr. Jared Sandifer with LSP identified the victim as Armand Marchand IV, 45, of Gonzales.

Sandifer said the 2004 Cadillac SRX that Marchand was driving veered off I-10 East near Highland Road (LA 42) around 12:30 a.m. Troopers reported the car went into Bayou Manchac and sunk.

Sandifer added Marchand was rushed to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators said Marchand was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. They added they do not know if impairment was a factor.

Per protocol for deadly traffic crashes, a sample of Marchand's blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.

The section of I-10 East between Highland and Prairieville was shut down until around 4 a.m.
