BATON ROUGE, LA - Veterans and community members are invited to a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony being sponsored by the USS KIDD Veterans Memorial on May 26.

The ceremony will be held in the Louisiana Memorial Plaza, located at 305 South River Road, at 1 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

In the United States, Memorial Day is a nationally recognized holiday that was created to honor those who have paid the ultimate price to ensure our freedom. It is an opportunity for Americans to stop and give thanks for the many who have died protecting that freedom.

"This Memorial Day, we want to focus on honoring the fallen and the families who these heroes left behind," said USS KIDD Executive Director Alejandra Juan. "We can never thank these men and women enough for the sacrifices they have made for us but we can certainly honor their memories and show their families our appreciation for the sacrifices they have endured."

Gold Star Mother Jan McCurdy will be the keynote speaker for the Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony. A free viewing of the movie Taking Chance will play in the museum theatre.

Veterans are encouraged to wear something that represents branch of service, such as their uniform or even a small pin. Gold Star families are encouraged to bring a picture of their loved one. Memorial Day guests are encouraged to wear something patriotic to show their support.
