BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that sent one person to the hospital early Monday morning.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported the shooting happened just after midnight behind the Albertson's on College Drive.

The probable cause report says Marquillis Devante Red, 21, and another man, both employees at Walmart on College Dr., were on duty and got into an argument inside the store about an hour before the shooting.

Red and the other man were brought into the office to calm down and they were sent their separate ways in the store.

Both men went on break at the same time and went outside. A fight broke out between the two in the parking lot of Albertson's, which is next door to Walmart. After the fight, the other man began walking back to the Walmart parking lot when police say Red "trailed behind him and fired a gun at him striking him multiple times."

Witnesses identified Red as the shooter to the EBRSO deputies working extra duty detail at the store. They were able to detain Red until detectives arrived.

The report says Red admitted to deputies that he shot the man in the parking lot.

Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. with BRPD said the victim was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. He added the victim is expected to survive.

The victim's name was not released.

Red has been charged with attempted second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. His bond has been set at $95,000.
