AMITE, LA (WAFB) - A woman was arrested Monday after a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Deputy saw her put a folded paper bag of drugs under a secured gate of a jail in Amite, LA.
Deputies say 33-year-old Eureka Martin was at the jail around 6 p.m. Monday. The deputy was sitting in his marked patrol unit when he saw a silver Saturn pull into the parking lot and park near his patrol unit.
He then witnessed Martin get out of her car, walk to the secured gate and place a folded paper bag under the fence. The deputy confronted Martin and the bag was recovered. Officials say the bag contained synthetic marijuana, one 4mg Xanex tablet, one 5mg Hydracodone tablet and four 5mg Buspirone tablets.
Martin was taken into custody and charged with distribution of CDS I, II and IV, possession of a legend drug without a prescription, the introduction of contraband into a penal institution and on an outstanding warrant.
Tangipahoa Sheriff Daniel Edwards warns the community that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. "Anyone you are caught engaging in this illegal activity will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," says Edwards.
