BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Detectives have arrested a man for the murder of a 77-year-old man found buried in a shallow grave in a garden in his backyard.
Early Monday morning, police were called the home on Alvin Dark Avenue for a suspicious missing person case. When police arrived to investigate they found the shallow grave in the backyard of the home.
Investigators found the 77-year-old Chester Oakley in the grave.
Douglas Studeman, 54, Oakley's roommate, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with first degree murder and armed robbery.
Police say Studeman was upset with Oakley and the two men got into a physical fight. Reports say Studeman hit Oakley with a blunt object, which is believed to have killed him. Studeman buried Oakley in the garden and took several items belonging to Oakley, according to police.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner says an autopsy has been scheduled.
Studeman will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
