BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge took part in one of the world's oldest HIV/AIDS Awareness and Action events on Sunday night, May 18th.
The ceremony was part of the International Aids Candelight Memorial, which is held all over the world. People headed out to Town Square to hear city leaders speak about AIDS awareness. The ceremony was spearheaded by the HIV/AIDS Alliance for Region II, or HAART, who says their goal is to help those affected by AIDS in Baton Rouge.
HAART also says they used Sunday;'s Memorial to shed light on what they call an epidemic in Baton Rouge. The city ranks first in AIDS cases and third in HIV cases.
