BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A group of trailblazers were celebrated earlier on Sunday at the Baton Rouge Leo S. Butler Community Center.
Assistant Director Helen Rutledge says it is a good opportunity to expose children to heroes within the community.
"The reason we are honoring them is because we want our community school children as well as this community to know their heroes that's here," said Rutledge. "Everybody knows the great Coach Eddie Robinson, but there are others."
The walls of the center have been transformed to walls of fame. It covers African-Americans who were born and raised in old South Baton Rouge and accomplished great things. These community heroes are honored in 30 categories. It is open to the public and school tours are in the works.
