Former La. Agriculture Commissioner dies

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Former Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Bob Odom has passed away. He was 78 years old.

Odom was elected to office in 1980 and was easily re-elected to five additional terms.  After serving 28 years in office, he dropped out of a re-election battle in 2007 after only narrowly defeating a challenger in the primary election.

In the October 2007 election, Odom got 43 percent of the vote, while Dr. Mike Strain got 41 percent.  Strain is currently serving in the position Odom held for nearly three decades.
