In Livingston Parish, a group of people received some well-deserved recognition for the often thankless job they do.

The Denham Springs Kiwanis Club handed out their "Peace Officer of the Year" award to four men from four different agencies that serve the parish.

"Very honored, very honored," said 2014 Peace Officer of the Year Sr. Tpr. Bruce Billings, "because there's a lot of guys that work with all the different agencies besides just State Police. You got Denham Springs, you got Livingston Sheriff's Department, Albany, [and] Springfield PD. A lot of good agencies in the parish that deserve the award just as much as I do."

These awards have been given out since 1973. Sheriff Jason Ard said it's a great way to remind people how much these men and women sacrifice on a daily basis.

The honorees are Cpl. Ronnie Sharp of Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, Detective Glenn Lemoine of the Denham Springs Police Department, Deputy Marshal Andre Sylvester, and Sr. Tpr. Bruce Billings of the Louisiana State Police.
