BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - At the State Capitol, lawmakers in the House of Representatives agreed to pass a bill that would speed up environmental clean-ups.
Bill 854 directs the Department of Natural Resources to quickly develop plans to remove oil field pollution in affected areas. The new law also says civil court action will not be delayed during the cleanup.
"What this does is it doesn't stop the trial from going forward so it encourages and promotes the Department of Natural Resources to do its job while at the same time removing the provision in this bill that would stop the trial," said Rep. Neil Abramson.
The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
