State places St. Clair Township in fiscal emergency

ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Ohio Auditor of State Dave Yost on Thursday placed Butler County's St. Clair Township in fiscal emergency because of "significant deficit fund balances."

The distinction means the township will be under the oversight of a financial planning and supervision commission. A financial plan must be developed by township trustees and approved by the commission within 120 days of its first meeting to address the financial problems.

The auditor of state's office said the township had fund balances of $24,914 and $190,159 at Dec. 31, 2012 and Dec. 31 respectively.

Township trustees contacted the auditor of state's office to request a fiscal analysis to determine if the township's financial condition justified a fiscal distress declaration, the auditor of state's office said. The state conducted the analysis.
