High-tech parking meters coming downtown

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

If you're ever in downtown Baton Rouge, you'll probably notice parking is sometimes hard to find. And when you do find a spot, scrambling for spare change to pay the meter makes it even worst. But there will be new, high-tech parking meters coming soon.

Instead of using quarters, the new meters will you allow you to pay with your credit or debit card, through an app on your cell phone. Downtown Development District Director Davis Rhorer said this will be a much-needed improvement.

"It will be a lot easier for customer and visitors to go downtown. A lot of times people don't use change anymore. This would make it a lot easier for them to utilize the parking service," said Rhorer.

Marianne Couvillon who usually visits downtown says this is something that will make her time more enjoyable.

"I'm usually in a hurry while getting out my car. Then I'm scrambling for change. So if you could do something using your phone and then pop you're through, I think it's a wonderful idea," said Couvillon.

Development officials are expecting the new meters to be installed by the end of the year.
