Celebrity chef and Toronto Maple Leafs forward promote healthy living and type 2 diabetes prevention

TORONTO, May 14, 2014 /CNW/ - Join celebrity chef Mark McEwan and Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson today as they join forces to get Canadians moving and eating healthier in an effort to promote type 2 diabetes prevention.

Clarkson and McEwan have partnered with Sun Life Financial as they support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada to highlight the Get BUSY (Building the Ultimate and Sensational You) program, which encourages children to get active and eat healthy.

McEwan will host an interactive cooking session, involving the kids who will help him whip up a hearty salad filled with energizing protein and veggies. Clarkson will then get the kids on their feet in a fitness clinic.

Registered nurses will also be on-hand to facilitate diabetes screening clinics for those in attendance.

The Get BUSY program was created in response to rising childhood obesity rates. Government of Canada statistics show childhood obesity rates have tripled in the past 30 years and can lead to health issues such as type 2 diabetes.

Sun Life Financial is committed to diabetes awareness and prevention, actively promoting healthy living in communities across Canada.

Media are invited to attend the event and join Mark and David in the activities.
