New housing development opens in Mid City

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A sparkling new housing development opened on an empty part of North Street in Mid City. An empty warehouse is now a community center.

"It's important for us to build for the people that most need housing  now," says Kathy Laborde with Gulf Coast Housing Partnership. "And we really believe that because of the key location of Mid City eventually folks of higher incomes will come to want to live here. In the meantime, the folks that are working now with lesser incomes will have quality housing in which they can reside."

Mid City Redevelopment also helped build the new neighborhood of neat townhomes with two and three bedrooms. They occupy parts of North Street, North 19th,  and Gayosa. The complex is called Belt Line Townhomes and they're now open for rent.
