LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

The suspect in last night's fatal shooting has been captured, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office.  Jason Wesley Holcombe, 24, was taken into custody just before 9:00 am Sunday morning on Linder Road in Denham Springs.

Livingston Parish Sheriffs Deputies say they received reports of a shooting in the 9900 block of Spur Road in Denham Springs just after 6:00 pm Saturday night.  When they arrived on the scene they found Joshua Thomason, 30, dead from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Deputies were able to identify Holcombe as the shooter through witness accounts. When Holcombe spotted Deputies, he fled on foot.  LPSO Deputies, K-9 Teams and Air Support were supported by citizen tips throughout the night in an effort to locate him.

A tip led LPSO Detectives directly to Holcombe's location at the Linder Road location where he was found Sunday morning. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with 2nd Degree Murder.  His bond is set at $500,000.

Sheriff Jason Ard says, ‘Citizens played a crucial role in this arrest.  Livingston Parish residents learned of the seriousness of this situation through either a First Call Alert, Facebook ‘shares' or local media.  They then communicated with my Deputies throughout the night.  In the end, a tip led my hardworking Deputies right to the suspect.  I've always said it takes citizens and law enforcement working together to keep our parish safe.  This proves that.'

Investigators say it appears that Holcombe and Thomason were both living at the Spur Road address.  A motive for the shooting is still unknown.
