BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - It was a long and nervous wait for LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry and his supporters Friday, as they stared at the television in anticipation of hearing his name called in the 2014 NFL Draft.
There were lots of long faces and some anger, as they couldn't understand why other players were taken before Landry. Eventually, there was that phone call to let him know he would be a professional football player.
Landry's teammate and great friend, Odell Beckham Jr., was there to comfort and celebrate with him.
"That's what we do for each other," Landry said. "We do that for each other and it says a lot about him being able to come from New York and come to be with my family and embrace this time with us."
"I was actually more nervous coming here than I was at the draft," Beckham explained. "They stole a pick is what they did. It was a lot of teams who will regret passing on him."
I was joking with your brother that there was more crying here than there will be at your funeral.
"Just a bit of rejoicing, that's all," Landry said.
Landry was taken by the Miami Dolphins in the second round with the 63rd overall pick.
