WALKER, LA (WAFB) - A teenager accused of killing his mother is scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a sanity hearing.
Eddie Island III, 17, of Walker, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Tamila Wooley, 34. She was found dead inside her townhouse by a family acquaintance on New Year's Day.
Detectives with the Walker Police Department said the teen confessed to killing his mother either late on Dec. 29, 2013 or early on December 30.
"When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that Ms. Wooley was dead from apparent multiple gunshot wounds," said Capt. John Sharp with WPD. "It appeared that Ms. Wooley had been dead for two or more days. Our officers also learned that Ms. Wooley's black Lexus sedan was missing, as was her 17-year-old son, Eddie Robert Island."
Authorities said a 2-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy were found unharmed inside the home.
Investigators reported finding Island driving the missing car on Jan. 2, 2014.
Police believe that over the two-day period between the murder and discovery of the body, Island returned to the home to check on the children and attend to their needs.
