BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Huey P. Long Field House is preparing to get a makeover.

Local architects have come up with a master plan to restore the old building. The building closed its doors back in 2003. The building was named after former Louisiana Governor Huey P. Long. He help triple the size of LSU to what it is today.

The back half of the field house is abandoned, with rust and broken windows. LSU Police Cpt. Cory Lalonde said a new look to the field house would be in the best interest of students.

"It is a situation where with it being abandoned that it tends to attract people to explore and the main reason we enforce people not being in there is because of safety," said Lalonde.

Architects will put their plans on display at a community meeting Wednesday night at the Old Governor's Mansion.
