Police say suspected bank robber arrested after trying to flee traffic stop

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police said a traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a suspected bank robber Thursday.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Quarles Harris, 40, of Zachary, is accused of robbing the Regions Bank on South Sherwood Forest Boulevard at gunpoint on Monday.

Cpl. L'Jean Mckneely Jr. said when a patrol officer tried to pull over a car on South Choctaw, the driver sped off. However, he added he crashed into another vehicle a short time later.

Mckneely added the suspect then got out of the car and tried to run from the officer, but was quickly captured.

Harris was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of armed robbery.

Mckneely stated he is also wanted by the New Orleans Police Department for another armed robbery.

Police are still investigating the bank robbery.
