Police: Man dies at hospital after being shot in parking lot

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Detectives said a man who was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after getting shot early Thursday morning later died from his wounds.

Cpl. L'Jean Mckneely Jr. with the Baton Rouge Police Department identified the victim as Elbert Marshall, 29, of Baton Rouge. He added Marshall was shot in a parking lot on La Margie Drive around 2 a.m.

Capt. Ronald Norman with BRPD earlier reported officers were called out to a report from La Annie Drive about shots fired. He said responding officers found the victim lying in a parking lot near Belaire High School.

Investigators said EMS rushed Marshall to the hospital where he later died. They have not yet named a suspect in the case. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.

Detectives are continuing their investigation.
