Police: Man arrested for selling marijuana, possession of stolen guns

BAKER, LA (WAFB) -

What began as a traffic stop Tuesday morning ended with a 21-year-old Baker man under arrest on multiple drug charges and a two counts of possession of a stolen firearm.

According to a report from the Baker Police Department, detectives were investigating John Mitchell for possible distribution of marijuana at his house. During the traffic stop, the officer found a partially smoked marijuana cigar in the vehicle.

Mitchell was placed under arrest and was interviewed by detectives. Mitchell told police that he was a marijuana smoker and he randomly sold marijuana from his house.

Detectives searched his home where several quart-sized packages of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and two firearms were found. The firearms were reported stolen.

According to the report, he also told police that he had been selling marijuana for the past couple of months to pay his bills. He also told police that he bought the two guns a day or two ago from a guy off the street so he could protect his family.

Mitchell was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, two counts of possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, two counts of possession of stolen firearms, and drug paraphernalia.
