HOUMA, LA (WAFB) -

Three people are in custody after being accused of beating a man unconscious and robbing him at a gas station in Houma.

It happened Thursday just after Noon. Terrebonne Parish deputies were called to the Exxon Gas Station in the 1400 block of Prospect Boulevard.

Before the deputies arrived, they were informed that the three suspects left the scene in a white Jeep.

According to reports, the 37-year-old victim was knocked unconscious and the suspects took items from his pockets. He was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

A witness came forward and reported the information to the Sheriff's office.

A deputy on patrol conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle shortly after the complaint was filed.

The three suspects were taken to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office where they were questioned by detectives. During the investigation it was learned that the beating happened because the victim allegedly owed the suspects $200.

Marlene Rouse, 43; William Vern Egeler, 38; and William Anthony Gautreaux, 37 were arrested for second degree robbery. Rouse is being held on a $10,000 bond. Egeler and Gautreaux are being held on a $20,000 bond.

Officials say all three suspects have been arrested a number of times for various crimes, including crimes involving illegal narcotics.
