Gonzales man arrested for growing marijuana in his apartment

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - An anonymous tip led Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office detectives to the arrest of 42-year-old Richard Dent for cultivation of marijuana.

During the past two months, detectives received information on possible drug sales at Ascension Town Homes, 41063 Cannon Road, in Gonzales. On April 24 at approximately 7:55 a.m. detectives performed an extra patrol of the complex.

They saw Dent smoking what appeared to be marijuana in the parking lot of the complex, according to Chief Tony Bacala.

Dent was approached by detectives and tried to hide the marijuana behind his back which he had extinguished, but the smell remained. Detectives then asked him to show what he was hiding and he showed the partially smoked marijuana blunt.

Detectives then searched his apartment and located a total of 30 potted marijuana plants. Dent's small children were also in the home.

He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana second offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, cultivation of marijuana , and three counts of illegal use of a controlled substance in the presence of persons under 17.
