Five arrested after narcotics bust at business, homes

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A narcotics bust at a business on Plank Road a home in the Shenandoah area and another home in North Baton Rouge ends with five people arrested and drugs and guns seized.

Early Wednesday morning, detectives with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office Narcotics division, SWAT, K-9 and Baton Rouge Police SWAT executed three search warrants after a lengthy investigation into the sale of synthetic marijuana.

The warrants were executed at Candles and Accessories on Plank Rd, a house in the 3400 block of Wayne Dr. and another house in the 6600 block of Antioch Crossing. During the search, nearly $8,000, 28 ounces of high-grade marijuana, 90 grams of synthetic marijuana, a Taurus .38 Special and a Ruger .357 Magnum were seized.

Huan M. Nguyen, 33, and Andre Weatherspoon, 30, were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, illegal carrying of weapon with a controlled and dangerous substance, illegal carry of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Roy Thomas, 38, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hung Nguyen, 33, was charged with possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and illegal carrying of weapon with a controlled and dangerous substance.

Shamar D. Harris, 22, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and illegal carry of a weapon with a controlled and dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

All five were taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. No bonds have been set.
