BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Mayor Kip Holden and his wife Lois will celebrate the Mayor's Annual Family Bike Day on Sunday, April 27, by leading a bike ride in conjunction with the Earth Day celebration downtown.
Riders can register for the bike ride on Sunday at noon on Fourth Street between North Boulevard and Convention Street. The ride is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m., and will travel down Convention, go north on Third Street to the State Library, and back down Lafayette and Convention to the starting point.
There will be a bike corral at the start and finish line so that riders can park their bikes afterwards and attend Earth Day events. The Mayor's Family Bike Ride is open to bicyclists of all ages free of charge.
The ride is held each year as part of the Mayor's Healthy City Initiative. The event will also celebrate Baton Rouge's status as the first Louisiana city to be officially recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.
