NOPD: Suspect captured after opening fire in 7th Ward

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Police have a suspect in custody in connection with Monday morning gunfire in the Seventh Ward.

Blake Authement, 19, was inside a home in the 1600 block of Touro Street when he began firing a handgun the house just after 9 a.m., according to New Orleans Police Department spokesman Officer Garry Flot. The suspect then walked outside, where he threatened several people and fired again, striking several cars, Flot said.

When officers approached, Authement allegedly pointed the gun a them and then fled. Officers set a perimeter and caught the suspect in the 1800 block of N. Derbigny Street.

The case remains under investigation.
