NOPD: Man wanted for committing simple robbery in French Quarter

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- New Orleans Police Detectives are searching for a man who committed a simple robbery in the French Quarter. The incident occurred Saturday at 3:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Chartres Street.

According to police, the victim was walking within the block when he was approached by an unknown African-American man. The man punched the victim, knocking him to the ground. The man then tried to take the victim's wallet and ripped the victim's pants pocket in the process. The victim screamed for help and several nearby individuals came to his aid.

The suspect grabbed the victim's cell phone, prior to getting into the back passenger seat of a dark-colored four-door car that was nearby. The victim also noticed three other people inside of the car. The vehicle traveled north on Barracks, then in an unknown direction.
