BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Mayor Kip Holden was honored at the Second Annual Baton Rouge Area Association of Black Journalists Scholarship luncheon. The luncheon was held at Boudreaux's.
Holden received the Pioneering Journalists award along with Bob Rene, who was among the first Black photographers at Channel 9, and Yvonne Campbell, the first Black reporter at the Advocate.
The award recognizes journalists who have paved the way for others to follow and set a standard of excellence.
Proceeds from the luncheon benefit Southern University and LSU journalism students. WAFB's Michelle McCalope is president of the group.
