We received several hundred comments in response to our commentary this week about the Common Core curriculum. An overwhelming percentage of those who responded were opposed to our point of view. We selected Dot Dickinson's rebuttal for this week's "Your Turn" commentary.
In her words: "I am a retired educator. I endured many innovations during my 25 year tenure. Some were good and stuck around and some were just plain awful and faded into the sunset. I think Common Core and the current teacher evaluation system are poorly thought out and not suitable for our state. There is a reason that teachers are retiring in record numbers. Just my opinion: I don't think (Governor Bobby) Jindal's motives are totally political. He is listening to the parents and teachers who are his constituents. Most of the state supports him, if voting numbers count for anything."
